Knauf Blown In Insulation Nationwide

Knauf Blown In Insulation in Los Angeles: What to Know First

We install, top up, and remove Knauf blown-in insulation across Los Angeles, typically completing most attic jobs in a single day. The cost for a standard Los Angeles attic runs between $1,400 and $3,200 depending on square footage, current R-value, and whether old insulation needs to come out first. We’re an independent Knauf service provider, not a manufacturer authorized dealer, which means we tell you what’s actually needed instead of what earns a factory rebate.

How Knauf Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • Jet Stream and Jet Stream ULTRA settling below the original R-value. Knauf’s fiberglass blown-in products are good material, but in Los Angeles attic heat, any loose-fill fiberglass settles 15 to 20 percent within the first few years. We see attics in Sherman Oaks and the Valley where 14 inches of Jet Stream measured at install reads closer to 10 inches now. R-38 becomes R-26 without anyone touching it. Our fix is a measured top-up to whatever R-value the homeowner and budget call for, usually R-38 or R-49 for Los Angeles climate zones.
  • Wind washing in open attic eaves with Knauf blown-in fiberglass. This one’s particular to how Los Angeles houses are built. Older Spanish-style and ranch homes in neighborhoods like Reseda and Northridge have open soffit vents, and afternoon winds off the Santa Anas push through eaves and push insulation away from the exterior walls. Knauf fiberglass, being lighter than cellulose, shifts more. We see bare spots right above the top plate where heat pours in from the ceiling below. Fix: we install a wind baffle or air seal the soffit before topping up.
  • Moisture-holding damage in Knauf EcoBatt when paired with a blown-in top layer. This is a detail Knauf’s own documentation won’t tell you. EcoBatt kraft-faced batts are fine on their own, but when a previous contractor blew loose-fill over them, the facing acts as a vapor trap when humidity from the house pushes up. In Los Angeles, where attics get hot and neighbors run swamp coolers or humidifiers in summer, we’ve pulled out EcoBatt that weighed twice its original density, soaked and falling. We remove the wet batt and replace the whole assembly with Knauf blown-in fiberglass or a properly unfaced setup, depending on what the homeowner wants.
  • R-value loss in Knauf Insulation Board used in closet and knee-wall cavities. Knauf board products aren’t blown-in, but they show up all over Los Angeles as knee-wall insulation in attics. The failure is drying and shrinkage over 15 to 20 years, especially in the dry heat of the East Side. Where board has shrunk from studs by half an inch or more, we pull it and fill those cavities with blown-in Knauf fiberglass instead, which stops the thermal bypass better than board ever did.
  • Rodent and pest intrusion compromising Knauf blown-in fiberglass. Rodents love loose-fill insulation. Knauf’s own data sheets mention no pest resistance. In neighborhoods from Pasadena to Culver City, roof rats and mice tunnel through blown-in Knauf and leave compacted runs. Attic rodents don’t eat fiberglass, but they’ll flatten a path from the soffit to the duct chases. We remove the contaminated fill, sanitize, air seal the entry point, and blow fresh Knauf to spec.

Our Knauf Blown In Insulation Process

Every Knauf job follows five steps, in this order, with no exceptions. Written price in your hand before step three. That’s the way Bryce Holloway runs Alden Attic Insulation, and it’s the way our crews work.

  1. 1
Attic inspection and measurement. We get in the attic, look at what’s already up there, measure depth, check for moisture, air leaks, or old wiring that needs attention. Takes about 30 to 45 minutes. We tell you what we found and what we’d do.
  2. 2
Written estimate. You get a line-item price, on paper, before any tools come off the truck. Square footage, product, R-value target, any removal. That number is the number on the invoice. No “adjustments” when we find something “unexpected” because by this point we’ve already found it.
  3. 3
Prep and air sealing. On most Knauf top-up jobs we air seal obvious bypasses first: wire penetrations, pipe chases, top plates. You can’t air seal under old insulation without removing it, but we handle what we can reach and tell you what else we saw.
  4. 4
Blow to spec. We run Knauf blown-in fiberglass, usually Jet Stream or Jet Stream ULTRA, through a calibrated machine. Each bag goes in and we check depth against the chart as we work. No one guesses. The R-value target comes from the estimate and we hit it.
  5. 5
Cleanup and check. We power down the hopper, sweep out the attic access, and reseal any access panels or boxes we opened. You and the tech walk the attic together before we leave. Photos of the final depth and coverage get attached to your work order.

What Knauf Blown In Insulation Costs in Los Angeles

Costs break down by the size of the attic, the R-value you’re targeting, and whether old material has to come out. Los Angeles homes run anywhere from 1,000 to over 3,000 square feet of attic floor, so prices move accordingly:

  • Top-up of existing Knauf blown-in to R-38: $1,400 to $2,200 for most single-story Los Angeles homes
  • Full removal and new Knauf blown-in to R-38: $2,600 to $4,100 including disposal, sanitizing if needed, and air sealing at accessible points
  • Attic plus air sealing package: Add $600 to $1,200 depending on how many bypasses need attention
  • Knee-wall and sidewall cavities (by request): Add $800 to $1,800 for selective cavity fill in Los Angeles attic conversions

The price comes from square footage first, R-value target second. Knauf Jet Stream runs about the same per installed R-value as Owens Corning or Johns Manville loose-fill. We don’t mark up because of the brand name. You get the written number before we start, and if the scope doesn’t change, neither does the price. Call (254) 272-5876 for a free estimate.

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Alden Attic Insulation for Knauf Work

Alden Attic Insulation operates under The Garrison Standard, which is the name for how our parent company has run since 2002: background-checked techs in uniform showing up inside the window, a written price before work starts, and a written guarantee that includes a free return visit if the work fails within 365 days. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Not a verbal promise. On paper.

When someone’s got a Knauf product that isn’t performing, we’re not chasing factory rebates. We tell you what’s wrong and fix it. If a different product fits your house better at the same or lower price, we say so, because we install Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, GreenFiber, and Reflectix. Knauf is good insulation. Sometimes it just needs to be brought back to spec. Bryce Holloway says, “Good insulation doesn’t announce itself, you just stop noticing the heat.” That’s the goal.
